When should I schedule a sick visit?

In some instances, you need to be seen right away, but not necessarily in an emergency room sort of setting. You should schedule a sick visit if you have any of the following urgent care concerns:

• Diarrhea or constipation
• Cold or flu symptoms
• Unexplained fatigue
• Nausea or vomiting       
• Sprains or strains 
• Sinus infection
• Lacerations 
• Sore throat
• Bronchitis 
• Fever 

You may also need a sick visit if you’re experiencing burning while urinating, which could be a sign of a urinary tract infection (UTI). 

What happens during a sick visit?

When you come into Katy Internists for your sick visit, you can expect a comprehensive evaluation. Depending on your symptoms, your physician may:

• Draw your blood or request a urinalysis
• Order imaging, such as X-rays 
• Check your blood pressure
• Recommend a throat culture
• Conduct a flu test 

Once your provider diagnoses you, the Katy Internists team spends time talking with you about your condition and any treatments you may need. 

Your doctor can prescribe medications (if needed), recommend over-the-counter drugs, or administer any essential in-office treatments, such as stitches for a cut. Your provider also spends time counseling you on how to care for yourself at home and when you may need to come back to Katy Internists for a follow-up visit. 

How do I prepare for a sick visit?

If you’re sick or injured, the caring team at Katy Internists wants to see you right away to help you get started on treatment quickly. If possible, there are a few steps you can take to prepare for your visit, such as:

• Bring in a valid form of identification and insurance information
• Drink plenty of water, if you need to provide a urine sample
• Make a list of all of your medications and dosages
